TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY
People make investments in many things — a child’s future, retirement and home improvements. They invest in their health through exercise and wholesome food. They invest in their community by volunteering for activities that makes life better for everyone. Yet, there’s an overlooked investment that impacts on the quality of life everywhere: planting and caring for trees.
Bataan 2020 Inc., Samal Plant, located at Bgy. Gugo Samal, Bataan started a tree planting activity headed by Maa’m Malou Sibolboro last December 1, 2007, Saturday, and December 8, 2007. Approximately 40 employees from Samal plant and 7 employees from Baesa plant, along with yard maintenance, security group including team leaders and supervisors, planted 700 mahogany trees and 10 mango trees, around the mill and housing area. It was a beautiful, sunny day when the volunteers brought rakes and shovels together with their high spirits and good attitude to the event. After the completion of the tree planting the volunteers were treated to a free lunch at the canteen.
In February 2008, the mill through the Yard and Maintenance group started planting Indian and bamboo trees in our sludge area. To date, they have planted around 225 Indian trees and 70 bamboo trees and the activity is still on-going. The sludge area is now turning into a park with the carabao grass making the entire area green.
Proper tree care, including watering, fertilizing and pruning is being done by the mill’s yard maintenance group every day. |
